SIMPLER

Overview of Services

SIMPLER is a research infrastructure hosted by Uppsala University and managed by a consortia consisting of Uppsala University, Karolinska Institutet, Chalmers University of Technology and Örebro University with support from Uppsala, Västmanland and Örebro regions. SIMPLER stands for Swedish Infrastructure for Medical Population-based Life-course and Environmental Research. The infrastructure includes 110,000 men and women, born between 1914-1952, and is composed of questionnaire data on health, diet and lifestyle, clinical data and biological samples. The source to data and samples are the Swedish Mammography Cohort, SMC, Cohort of Swedish Men, COSM, and their clinical subcohorts. The Swedish Mammography Cohort was founded in 1987-1990 when women in the counties Uppland and Västmanland were invited to participate in connection with a mammography screening. The Cohort of Swedish Men started ten years later when men in the counties Västmanland and Örebro were included at the first follow up in 1997 of the female cohort. Two additional follow ups have been performed in 2008/2009 and in 2019. In 2003 the Swedish mammography Cohort clinical Uppsala was established for collection of biological samples and clinical data, followed by The Swedish Mammography Cohort clinical Västerås and Cohort of Swedsih Men clinical Västerås in 2010. For females in the clinical cohort Uppsala a clinical follow up started 2015. Questionnaire data, biological samples and -omics data are supplemented with register data from the national Swedish Board of Health and Welfare and from regional and local registers.
